About — Poppy Liu Poppy Liu is a bilingual, first generation Chinese American actress who brings her identity as a migrant queer person of the API diaspora into art and entertainment. Poppy’s film/TV career began in 2018 with guest appearances on New Amsterdam, Law & Order: SVU, and Better Call Saul. In 2019, for her first pilot season, Poppy landed the series regular role of Mei Lin on the NBC series Sunnyside starring alongside Kal Penn and was recognized by TVLine as one of the “Fall TV Breakout Stars” of the 2019-2020 season for her performance. Poppy will be appearing as Kiki in an upcoming HBOMax series which will be premiering later this year, **** info TBA. Prior to working in the entertainment industry, Poppy's entry into film and TV began with a number of collaborations with Chinese American and women indie filmmakers. In 2016 Poppy produced her first narrative short film Names of Women which she toured around the country speaking at numerous college campuses and conferences. In 2017 Poppy and her collaborators began producing the web series Mercy Mistress, a story based on Yin Q’s memoirs as a Chinese American professional dominatrix in which Poppy stars as the title character Mistress Yin. The following year Margaret Cho and her team joined 'Mercy Mistress' as Executive Producers. In addition to acting, Poppy is a community-based full spectrum doula and serves as a member of the Board of Directors for SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective. Poppy was born in **’An, China and raised between Dakota and Ojibwe land (Minnesota) and Shanghai. She currently lives between Lenape and Tongva land (New York and Los Angeles.)
